Annotation:

Timur Novikov (1958-2002), artist and reformer, curator, collector, museum activist, creator of “Zero Object” and zero music, new criticism and New Theatre, Pirate TV, the New Artists movement (1980s) and The New Academy of Fine Arts (1990s). Timur’s name is directly linked to the heyday of St. Petersburg’s culture in the last quarter of the 20th century. His art is distinguished by freedom and paradox: it easily combines democratism of images and materials with intellectual power and an elaborate conceptual basis His work — the neo-expressionism of the 1980s and neo-academism of the 1990s anticipates modern concepts of the ecology of culture. Novikov perceived the most important principles of avantgarde art, its universal, synthetic way of thinking. He became a theoretician of new art, continuing and developing the avantgarde concepts of “everythingness” (vsyochestvo), “extended vision”, and “texture”.
